Mobile Radios or Vehicle radios are used in-vehicle for longer range communications for fleet communications, taxis, security and businesses who want simple area wide communications.

Most wide area radio systems operate on the VHF band and give a range from vehicle to vehicle of around 5 miles and up to 40 miles when a Base Station or Repeater is used.
A fixed mobile can be used as a control point or simply to allow permanent operation of a two-way radio where mains power is present.
