ATEX Radios - Stay Safe in Hazardous Areas     

ATEX Radios, sometimes known as "Intrinsically Safe" Two Way Radios are used in environments where there is a risk of explosion from gases, vapours or dust.  These potentially explosive environments can be wide ranging from a flour mill to an oil refinery or pharmaceutical manufacturing plant.
ATEX and "Ex", the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC replaced the European wide Cenelec standards for Intrinsically Safe equipment in 2003, and is considered the de facto standard for equipment used professionally in hazardous environments and atmospheres. 

There are other Standards such as "Factory Mutual" or "FM", but they are generally only used in USA.
